You’ve probably seen her around – either before or after the WOD – putting in the work. She’s participated in all coaches’ challenges and works on her pull up everyday, Lindsay Kramer is a fantastic example of “Hard Work Pays Off”.
What’s the secret sauce? CrossFit athlete Lindsay answers some questions on what drives her to show up and work everyday.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I have been doing CrossFit for approximately 5 or 6 years.
How long have you been at CFHR?
You can correct me here, but coming up on 3 years.
How did you start?
I needed to change gyms to one that offered early morning classes when I started a new job a number of years ago. There was a new box down the street from my house with morning classes, so with no research or any thought put into it I signed up and made Janet Adams go with me!
What makes you get to the gym everyday?
The constant challenge makes me stay, even if I feel proficient at something, there are dozens of other movements or lifts that I could work on. CFHR has a wonderful atmosphere with amazing, knowledgeable coaches and kickass athletes that hold me accountable and push me every day.
Has your motivation changed from when you first started?
Definitely, my initial motivation was I simply wanted to work out. Now that I know more about CrossFit, I have movements that I want to master, lifts that I want to do better and with more weight. There is always something to work on.
What do you enjoy the most?
It may sound weird, but I love that you are never good at it. I like that I can’t relax because I can always be better at some portion of it. That pushes me, that and the variety day to day. I love that no two workouts are the same.
What have you learned since joining CFHR?
That you can teach an old dog new tricks. I never thought I would master some of these movements at this point in my life!
What’s your proudest moment?
Getting a strict pullup!! Now I’m up to two of them.
Funniest/Best memory at CFHR?
I love the camaraderie of our teams during the CrossFit Games.
What impact has Crossfit had on you outside the gym?
I feel stronger than I did 10 years ago, I’m likely in the best shape of my life.
What goal are you currently working towards? Personal and/or CrossFit.
I want to continue to be more proficient at pushups and strict pullups. I would like to complete Murph with no box pushups at all!
What’s your favorite lift, movement or workout?
Cleans, back squat, rowing, running
When you’re not crossfitting, what do you like to do?
I love to hang with friends and visit my daughter at Campbell University to watch her swim and compete.
Favorite movie/music/book/food/etc?
I love all mexican food and any good wine.
What’s one piece of advice you would offer to a new crossfitter?
Come on the days with programming you hate! You will never get better only showing up on the days with movements you like and enjoy. You have to work on all aspects of your fitness.
